Living Without Pain

It has been two weeks since my surgery.  Arthritis is a horrible disease. I was in excrutiating pain for way too long.  There were too many nights when I woke up yelling. I couldn’t even tie my shoe.  The martyr that I am, I still walked a few miles at least 4 -5 times a week.  I should bronze my tennis shoes. I stood on platform shoes just to make sure I looked good. After all Beauty has no pain.  But I want every woman to know that there are alternatives to pain.  This hip operation is giving me a new lease on life. I can’t wait to be able to bend down and tie my own shoes instead of contorting my body to try to tie them beyond the pain. Today it is raining here, but even the damp and cold that penetrate a new wound aren’t nearly as uncomfortable as I would have been several weeks ago. I am thankful that I am living in a world where science can help out. Thank you to the Dallas Arthritis Foundation and Karen Stern who guided me the last two months.  Soon I will be out and walking without a walker, without a cane and standing on my own two feet.
