My, oh my has it been a busy week for us Sole Sisters! Yesterday we attended the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program at the Goodwill Industries of Dallas to celebrate the kick-off for the 2o12 summer internship. Cynthia and Sarah were on hand to meet all the wonderful people from ExxonMobil and Goodwill who made the day possible.
They first scored a picture with Larry Harlan, director of the ExxonMobil Foundation. His alma mater just so happens to be the University of Texas, where Sarah’s an undergrad. Hence the hook’em.
The reception was full of stylish ladies from tons of different non-profit organizations throughout Dallas. That’s why Sarah made sure to rock a minty top, one of this summer’s hottest colors. A Sole Sister‘s gotta stay up-to-date on her fashion trends.
We also met Frieda, an intern with Shakespeare Dallas who had some absolutely to die for Klimt-inspired tights. With adult jellies no less! 90’s throwback anybody?
Representative Eric Johnson gave the keynote address. As a native of Dallas, Rep. Johnson realized the importance of volunteerism and non-profits at an early age through his involvement with the Boys and Girls Club of Dallas.
His number one rule:
Always ask for a business card.
Smart. Very very smart. Luckily we had plenty of Sole Sisters cards on hand to give him!
After the reception we took a tour of the Goodwill warehouse. Did you know that Goodwill Dallas receives 70,000 pounds of donated material each day??
We can only wonder how many shoes a Sole Sister could fish out of this massive closet.
Spending the day with such great people from some of the most active and influential non-profits in the DFW area was such a great experience and only furthers our love for volunteer work and volunteerism.
Which is great, because volunteerism just so happens to be the theme of our next film at Media Projects. Allen’s documentary Waging Peace will have it’s world premier on June 21st at the Sixth Floor Museum. Part of the proceeds of the evening go to Peace Corps Partnership projects across the world. The evening’s celebrations are also dedicated to long time Media Projects Board President Dan Weiser. An activist who has made a major impact on the Dallas Community. You can buy tickets here.
