Andrea Carrizales arrived in Dallas from Mexico raring to make a name for herself. Andrea is a passionate student at Eastfield College, working towards her Associate’s degree with a field study in Communications. When I told her our summer internships were filled, she showed up anyway raring to work. She is the epitomy of persistence. Over the next month we will be posting the stories she collected this summer from immigrant students about the shoes they have worn to travel the roads they have taken.
Going through her busy days, Andy’s favorite shoes are a pair of tan leather loafers. They are a gift from her mother. Their beautiful and comfortable design, and their versatility make these shoes the perfect fit for Andy’s active lifestyle. They say a lot about Andy and her Mom’s relationship.
After graduating from Eastfield, Andy, as she is known by her friends, hopes to continue studying at a top university and obtain her Bachelor’s in Human Rights and minor in Communications.
Andy is the Managing Editor and Social Media Coordinator of The Et Cetera student newspaper. In addition, she is a blogger for the DCCCD, a LeCroy Scholar, President of the Eastfield Rotaract Club, Vice President of Eastfield’s Student Government Association, Vice President of Service in the Phi Theta Kappa Psi Eta chapter, and she partakes in many other activities. Her busy academic and extracurricular life led her to receive the Amidon/Beauchamp Student Leader of the Year Award.
